The Big Bang was the 'expansion' of ...space, not the expansion of the universe. Space is expanding, not the universe. Imagine an office building... with a trillion feet of space for office space, but contains only one office with 500 square feet. You need to expand your office because your busines is growing..so you tear the wall down and add another 500 square feet of office..your're expanding! The office building remains the same size.
