So now we use a non-Christian term invented to avoid giving potential offence to non-Christians and used it to date events when we fucked up the non-Christian world sixteen ways from Sunday. It's also quite inconsistent. We are expected to switch from AD to BCE but we keep the same count-from-the-birth-of-the allege-saviour numbering of years, and we do not bother to change religious names of days or months...
