But yes, if your friend bought you some pre-paid Costco gift cards, you _can_ use them at the gas pump - which is often the cheapest gas around, even without rebates. SIDENOTE: you can NOT do the same at SAM's Club [a]. If you have their gift cards but are not a member, you will NOT be able to gas up. This caused me some grief a year ago and yes, I wrote their corporate hq pissed as hell. [a] in my earlier post I wrote "BJ's".
