It's likely I'm missing some subtle reason for the complexities you outline above, but if you install python3-reno and then run `reno report` in the upstream Git repository for any project with a releasenotes tree (or pass the path to said Git repository in the command line) it will generate a reStructuredText compilation of the release notes contained therein. Very lightweight, no need for extra files or anything. I'd think you could just dump that output into a NEWS file or similar at binary package build time. This is basically the same thing reno's Sphinx extension does under the covers. Check out `reno report --help` for a number of flags you might want to pass it to make the results more readable like omitting the source filename comments, skipping notes earlier than a certain version, collapsing pre-release notes, and so on. A quick test of Nova's release notes indicates that even if you don't truncate them though and include everything back to when the project started using reno 5 years ago, that NEWS file would only increase the compressed size of the nova-doc package by 1%. --=20 Jeremy Stanley --ksm7kl76oeief3ze Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEl65Jb8At7J/DU7LnSPmWEUNJWCkFAl+fFPMACgkQSPmWEUNJ WClv4BAAmIM2EzI9wq7pPd0e/dPmOZOkPluymSFalEWlsba88DCnAleTfdykaiSq qcZNAr+h4vCGH5AZ/Z8i2E8aevTYTjYedBG+rVnR6OWmYFLr5AhFPWdhQmRcyfOq Q637J/5eabyx65P3Rg4A3zrN1daDgsosWvI8eK7hisqADQupRSCsvLm2yvFNWTEa B4+qGIKgOz4IHxmUGNFmC1+alVbykAXoxaBtDQX42BO7ow5UafK8qUT+R2rFQUrX YBFNZ/eGF4U+5c7PLLRAkReLdSvMicOwt8HTQ0JQzwotfa0j3b5A4fmO3S49f8AO jtcB+QFH/NqlMQSF/K5qqPgghM18QuIoDzavXG38zBh8q5v7eyDuQY2GSbRVpCu2 2q6Y74j0gwoZfPo01Y/FC4H8ItcPniqcXz4CKjVZjVXZvvzP/E1eAUfdl4H5XgTV bVwi/AJafWKrDquLn8YDtnuRvHtvJ0U3uXN+OgoEnEgnfhB5PbeZ6m29w+YVrchq 5zNlMUbWRl5y2WUJ0Fi+6KqKoOSw31NDuHiaQ6zLzNLhE1ZyhD16kBiYTIG9UMl3 nHN4bWV3lwBGSrkZ3uLHI3lMjeVgyJZ9fm4Eg2o1Ro+DSC6xQe5pGvqRbFbEM88n Vyzw440REEHS+Dwx0AE1mgvpwb/m1vxKu80qPb3eBkuEjWmw0M8= =1QQQ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --ksm7kl76oeief3ze--
