When freeze happens, user interface becomes completely unresponsive, but the host still responds to ping (but not to ssh). There is no messages in syslog that would give hints on what happened. I also tried 5.2 linux-image from Buster backports and experienced the same freezes. Reboot via power down/power up is needed in order to recover from a freeze. These two hosts have the same Intel CPU Celeron(R) 3205U @ 1.50GHz (lscpu and lspci from both is below). So I had to downgrade linux-image to 4.9 from Debian Stretch and it works on both hosts without freezes. Any hints on how to debug this would be appreciated. -- Juha -------------------- Acer C740 $ lscpu Architecture: x86_64 CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit Byte Order: Little Endian Address sizes: 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual CPU(s): 2 On-line CPU(s) list: 0,1 Thread(s) per core: 1 Core(s) per socket: 2 Socket(s): 1 NUMA node(s): 1 Vendor ID: GenuineIntel CPU family: 6 Model: 61 Model name: Intel(R) Celeron(R) 3205U @ 1.50GHz Stepping: 4 CPU MHz: 1499.908 CPU max MHz: 1500.0000 CPU min MHz: 500.0000 BogoMIPS: 2992.82 Virtualization: VT-x L1d cache: 32K L1i cache: 32K L2 cache: 256K L3 cache: 2048K NUMA node0 CPU(s): 0,1 Flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer xsave rdrand lahf_lm abm 3dnowprefetch epb invpcid_single kaiser tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust erms invpcid rdseed intel_pt xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln pts $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Host Bridge -OPI (rev 08) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics (rev 08) 00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Audio Controller (rev 08) 00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP USB xHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP MEI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #1 (rev e3) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP LPC Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP SATA Controller [AHCI Mode] (rev 03) 00:1f.6 Signal processing controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP Thermal Management Controller (rev 03) 01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev cb) -------------------- Gigabyte $ lscpu Architecture: x86_64 CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit Byte Order: Little Endian Address sizes: 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual CPU(s): 2 On-line CPU(s) list: 0,1 Thread(s) per core: 1 Core(s) per socket: 2 Socket(s): 1 NUMA node(s): 1 Vendor ID: GenuineIntel CPU family: 6 Model: 61 Model name: Intel(R) Celeron(R) 3205U @ 1.50GHz Stepping: 4 CPU MHz: 799.987 CPU max MHz: 1500.0000 CPU min MHz: 500.0000 BogoMIPS: 2993.28 Virtualization: VT-x L1d cache: 32K L1i cache: 32K L2 cache: 256K L3 cache: 2048K NUMA node0 CPU(s): 0,1 Flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer xsave rdrand lahf_lm abm 3dnowprefetch epb invpcid_single kaiser tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust erms invpcid rdseed intel_pt xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln pts $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Host Bridge -OPI (rev 08) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics (rev 08) 00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Audio Controller (rev 08) 00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP USB xHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP MEI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #1 (rev e3) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #3 (rev e3) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #4 (rev e3) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP USB EHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP LPC Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP SATA Controller [AHCI Mode] (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP SMBus Controller (rev 03) 02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 3160 (rev 83) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
