M-x calc this does take some time to get used to but it is a very god rpn calculator. It does algebra and other things. M-x calc in calc mode you can enter alibraic mode by using the ' character. 1 ' pi + = calc-mode is hard to use. there is excellent documentation for it in the emacs manual.
