Export photos from iPhoto to a folder on the computer Um, no. That may be the way *you* are doing it, but it's not the only way Apple provides. (a) you can have any of several apps automatically start up when you plug in the camera. iphoto is the likely default, but you could also have it be Image Capture. So step (2) is unnecessary (b) if you don't want to use iPhoto, don't. ImageCapture will download to any folder you like. Or send them to some app you like. So there's no need for separate steps (3) or (4). It's the same two steps, but with a nicer interface than dragging and dropping files. And it's already on your computer. > > That is something Apple could make a lot simpler - and w/o the stinkin' iCould. They have. It's been around for a long time. You already have it. Image Capture has been around since at least 10.4 (probably longer, but I don't remember off the top of my head), was totally updated in 10.6, and not only speaks to your camera, but also to your scanner and lots of other devices. It's what I use with my AIO networked print/scan/fax. (The current version with ML is 6.2 (451), and the copyright says 2000-2012, so maybe it was around with the very first OSX - predating even iPhoto by a couple of years)
