Yes. And it's even a pain in the ass for servers, due to the nature of open source, where problems often result in cryptic errors written by teenage open source developers. One example (out of many I have encountered in my career) is a version of rsync in a production RHEL installation where the only error generated was literally: You don't exist, go away! rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender] rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at io.c(463) [sender=2.6.8] We encountered this error, of all times, during automated deployment of code to a production server. *clap* *clap* *clap* Thanks so much! Well done, sirs! You just gotta love when Linux developers insert witty, cryptic, unhelpful error messages into their code, offering no assistance what-so-ever in determining what actually went wrong so you have to go read source code while you are working on mission-critical server infrastructure. Really productive use of time there. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR
