You must have entered the command wrong or something. The command is (without quotes): "diskutil list". The correct output will look similar to this: # diskutil list /dev/disk0 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk0 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1 2: Apple_CoreStorage 499.2 GB disk0s2 3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3 /dev/disk1 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: Apple_HFS System *498.9 GB disk1 Logical Volume on disk0s2 71DB8E55-D40A-40C1-9E1D-05BE4C39886F Unencrypted Another way to tell if you have a recovery partition is to use Disk Utility: 1. Quit Disk Utility. 2. In a terminal window, enter this command to enable the Disk Utility "Debug" menu (also: see TIP below): defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1 3. Run Disk Utility. 4. From the menu bar, choose Debug > Show Every Partition. 5. Look at the left side of the window for "Recovery HD": TIP: If you install the Secrets preference panel, you can enable the Disk Utility Debug menu (and a whole slew of other hidden settings, including "Show Hidden Partitions") without messing with a terminal window: You can get the Secrets preference panel here (look for the "PrefPane" link near the top): To use it, just extract the ZIP archive, double-click the prefpane file to install it, and it will appear in the System Preferences window. >> If you see "Apple_Boot Recovery HD" listed under the /dev/disk0 entry, >> then you do have a recovery partition on the startup drive. >> >>> I have used the disc utility and my startup disc passes muster. >> >> Did you specifically run the "Verify Disk" function (not the "Verify >> Disk Permissions" function)?
