My dad kept a diary from the day he was inducted into the US Navy in WWII until the day he was discharged; I had that and his dog tags from a few days after he died in 1997 until I gave them to my daughter a few months ago. I also gave her my army dog tags, and a dog tag I got from the NYC school system in the 3rd grade. (That dog tag was so that my body could be identified should I die during a nuclear attack by the USSR. It has my name, my parents' names, and our address on it.)
