Select one of the JPEG files in a Finder window. 2. Choose File > Get Info from the Finder menu bar. 3. In the Open With section of the Info window, set the application you want to use to open that type of file. 4. Click the Change All button just below that to set the same application as the default application for all files of that type. Since you haven't even explained what exact steps you are taking, it's going to be hard for anyone to help you without pulling teeth. > I can't even open foto pages What exactly is this so-called "foto page" to which you refer? Preview will add text to images. So will Pixelmator, Affinity Photo, and numerous others, both free and commercial. > If I accidentally touch anything on a Pages page with fotos and text in > the wrong place, I have to do it over, sometimes from scratch. Nah, you can do that for all files of that type easily, as described above. That functionality has been around for ages through many OS X releases. > Is there something that offers a free preview that can open my .jpg > files AND let me put together pages with both text and graphics, > unlike that \{%%{ $@#{£¥€^ Pages? Ah, now it sounds like you want to add images to a page of text. That sounds more like the job for a word processor. Pages may be overkill for that, depending on your needs, though, since it's more geared towards page layout type stuff. Have you tried TextEdit? It's included with OS X and can do simple things with images and text. Have you tried Bean? It's a free nice word processor: -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter.
