During the last=20 decade, tools and techniques emerged to support massive offline analysis=20 of web scale datasets on many thousands of computers working as a single=20 facility. However, the total amount of digital data being produced,=20 stored, and transmitted around the world is growing exponentially. The=20 wide diversity of data sources and formats (data variety) cannot be=20 handled by traditional systems and techniques, raising new data=20 management challenges. In many areas, applications need to collect data=20 and produce answers with high frequency or low latency, e.g. to raise=20 some alarm or take a decision within a few milliseconds. Furthermore, in=20 scalable environments with hundreds or thousands of components,=20 surviving to frequent failures is mandatory. Analytic processing and=20 knowledge discovery in such scenarios demand scalable and efficient=20 algorithms, able to handle the complexity and variety of data even under=20 specific constraints (e.g., energy consumption, available memory,=20 computational power, and networking capacity). Furthermore, sensor=20 networks and the Internet-of-Things open new perspectives in terms of=20 the amount and complexity of data to be managed. Topics of interests include, but are not limited to novel techniques,=20 algorithms, and tools for collecting, storage, processing, mining and=20 analysis of low latency big data in reliable and scalable computing=20 environments: * Scalability and elasticity in big data environments * Fault-tolerance in big data environments * Security and privacy in big data environments * Reliability in big data environments * Data streams processing techniques and systems * Complex event processing * Big data applications * Energy efficiency and big data * Scientific workflows for big data * Programming models, including MapReduce, extensions, and new models * Algorithms for big data analytics and data mining * Management of big data on the cloud * Big data tools, services, and infrastructures on clouds * HPC clouds for big data * Performance analysis of big data environments and applications * Big data benchmarks * Challenges in big data storage and processing * Scheduling and resource management in big data environments * Large data stream processing systems and infrastructures * Data-intensive computing on hybrid infrastructures (e.g., clusters, clouds, grids, P2P) * Implementation and optimizations for heterogeneous architectures * Implementation and optimizations for specialized architectures * Performance evaluation and optimization Accepted papers will be published by the ACM International Conference=20 Proceedings Series - ICPS and disseminated through electronic channels,=20 specifically, the ACM Digital Library (approval pending). Best papers published and presented at the workshop may be invited to=20 submit an extended version for publication in an good quality=20 International Journal (approval pending). ---------------------------------------------------------------- Paper submission Papers of no more than 6 pages must be formatted for submission=20 according to ACM proceedings template (Alternate style). Latex and word=20 templates can be downloaded=20 here:http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates. All submissions must be done through=20 EasyChair:https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=3Dwpba2014. -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ---- Organizing Committee Claudio Geyer (UFRGS, Brazil) Hermes Senger (UFSCAR, Brazil) Program committee: (to be announced): -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ---=20 Venue The workshop will be held in conjunction with 26th International=20 Symposium on Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing=20 (SBAC-PAD 2014), Paris, France. http://sbac.lip6.fr/2014/index.php --=20 --- Prof. Hermes Senger, Dr. Computer Science Department Federal University of S=E3o Carlos, Brazil http://www.dc.ufscar.br/~hermes
