After he retired my brother bought a modest sized motorhome. He once mentioned he thought there should be additional requirements for the driver license. He's never driven anything bigger than a passenger car and was self-aware enough to realize his inexperience. At the time I was driving OTR. You don't want to know how brief my training was before being set loose with a 63' long 40 ton vehicle. Double/triples were an additional endorsement, as were tankers. Both were written tests alone. My training with doubles came when I looked at the load board at the LA terminal and saw two trailer numbers. A couple of the more experienced truckers helped me hook the up and I was off for OJT in LA traffic. It's amazing there isn't more mayhem on the roads.
