The first Republican president, Lincoln, waged a civil war to support the interests of the northern industrialists. I've never felt comfortable in the big tent. It attracts the religious right by supposedly being against abortion, gay marriage, and so forth. When I vote for the Republican candidate it is because the Democrat is completely unacceptable. At times I vote for the Libertarian even though it's a hopeless cause and i don't care for their free trade and open borders agenda. The last time around they picked a gay blade for the candidate which was too much for the LP in this state.
