Relatedly, I've noticed that problem with "Find New Printers". If you just click "Find New Printers", cups returns immediately, without asking for root password, and just says "nothing found", even when there's a printer there ready and waiting to be found. Instead, if you first click "Add Printers", it asks for root password. After giving it, I return to "Administration", click "Find New Printers", and now it finds the ready-and-waiting printer.
