Yes yes - we know what google is doing.

Now, back in the real world, my userbase (of 3 family members) *are* 
using this stuff so I have to support it - somehow.

As much as I admire Stallman's uncompromising approach, Linus's 
pragmatism usually gets more done... I'll put myself in the pragmatic camp.
