That certainly works, but isn't necessarily the only useful topology. I would put one of the very common 4-port routers between that "internet switch" and your LAN. If the LAN is small, the 4 ports are all that is needed. If it is larger, use one or more Ethernet Switches to extend it. I have a cable modem, connected to the WAN port on a 4 port router. There is a single 16 port gigabit Ethernet switch to which all of my LAN devices, including the 4-port router, are connected to. The cable modem addreess is 192.168.1.100, the router is 192.168.0.3, and all devices on the LAN are 192.168.0.xxx.
