So ... couple has internet connectivity; couple loses connectivity; couple regains connectivity. I'd have liked to know more about the old and new systems and what differed. I see talk about relays. This problem is probably more common than the average urbanite is willing to believe, especially when you consider the dollar value of infrastructure required to bring fast internet to far away places. I was once stunned by a trip to rural, Sahelian, northern Senegal [1], where a 3G wifi dongle [2] allowed me to access Usenet from the middle of a desert landscape formidable by any measure. But that required a healthy network of cell towers and the 3G infrastructure that supported it. For all the talk about rebuilding American infrastructure, the investment that would have to support fast internet to the backwoods is beyond belief (for that matter, the dollar value of improving our road network or, as I read today our power transmission infrastructure, is astronomical as well. Too bad we spent all our money - and our children's and grandchildren's - bombing Iraq and Afghanistan). I don't think we'll have the money to do it any time soon.
