It is one thing to be backwards compatible, to support a broad community of users; it is another to hinder technological progress and putting people into danger while doing that. Terminated support for a software version at the vendor also means no more security updates for that software. Besides, today’s Web experience with those browser versions is already quite bad. As for the number of users, for last month and this one IE 8.0 market share has dropped to 1.04 % worldwide. It is 0.98 % in the USA, 1.18 % in the Russian Federation, and 6.55 % in the People’s Republic of China.
