However, the reason that searching for `||' fails is probably that Google supports `|' as an alternative to *its* logical `OR' in an advanced query, and apparently either it cannot interpret `||' even when it is double-quoted (which you would do to work around that) or simply does not include that in its index (it does include `&&', so you can search for `"&&"', though).
