I ran
from java.lang import *
from java import lang
and it did not complain
but I have no idea what it did

Meanwhile, I poked in the jython web site and a number of batch files have
either a colon or semicolon after the classpath jar just before calling
jython

My initial batch file had a semicolon, but after jython.jar
