You probably should try that one first, but there's not so much traffic here these days that I think anyone would be upset with the odd beginner's question here, as long as it's as well formulated and complete as yours were and as long as it's of the "help me understand" kind rather than "please give me the answer." Just be aware that the answers might sometimes turn nit-picky and sometimes veer into esoteric discussions that are not directly related to your question at all.
