Strings that are passed to linux use the word ZEN ( "zrrren") > an abbreviation of ZERO-END As mentioned elsewhere, I already use C style strings in my Forth, everywhere. It's built right into the inner interpreter. Why would I want to limit their use to only FFIs or host-specific interfaces? Most of Hayes core and core ext is implemented. Also, it only takes one byte and a change to one or two Forth words to convert to counted strings. BTW, it's coded in ANSI C, using GCC for DOS, i.e., DJGPP, but should compile cleanly for Linux, except for maybe one C function. Currently, most higher level Forth words are coded in Forth, i.e., only primitives, stacks, and system variables are in C. Rod Pemberton
