SMUDGE seems to only be documented as part of fig-Forth, i.e., it's not part of any standard, apparently. > Here is the only thread I found on C.L.F. discussing SMUDGE: > [link] Search for "SMUDGE" in the message body not the topic and you'll find some more threads discussing SMUDGE. E.g., I've mentioned SMUDGE over a half-dozen times according to Google Group's index of Usenet. Most were just casual mentions, but two were more in-depth. > : { wid anchor -- widN... They're not seeing anything you post or are flat out ignoring it, even if it is of merit. 2) No one is going to locate this topic here. You should start new threads on this stuff, Hugh. Maybe, try an alias. Of course, if people know it's still you, perhaps still ranting on Ms. Rather, they'll block or ignore the alias too. E.g., they know when "gavino" changes aliases by his writing style. > In 1993, Ray Duncan described ALSO/ONLY as "severely brain-damaged." He used Forth? Aw, I like that guy. Now, I think less of him ... Thanks a lot, Hugh! I'm just joking. Although, it's amazing he didn't make that claim of other utterly insane Forth issues. > Why did [Ms. Rather] put this in the ANS-Forth standard? > What were you thinking? Well, almost no one puts code here. They might as well have put something in the standard. You can't charge for 500 pages if you've only got 5 pages. Personally, I think that **I** have posted more code than you, Ms. Rather, Bernd, Alex, Anton, Paul, Rick, and a bunch of other current regulars combined since I started reading here circa 2007. Andrew, Albert, Mark, and a few others still post some. > The ANS-Forth committee wasn't doing any thinking at all --- the whole > ANS-Forth standard is a collision of ignorance and arrogance! Did you really expect any committee to _not_ be somewhat misguided? ... camel ... horse ... by committee ... ... too many ... cooks ... spoil ... broth ... etc. cliches. Decisions made by any group of sufficient size is going to be dumbed down to the level of the least intelligent member. This is why allowing everyone the right to vote is so risky and still radical even today. There are too many dumb people in the world. Unfortunately, it costs the smart people much money and time to improve the food, education, health and sanitation of ordinary citizens to the point that they stop wrecking the place, i.e., the world.
