I think, similarly urgent addition (but maybe easier to implement) would be a true 3D plotting (distant objects appear smaller than close ones), like e.g. in IDL. This would not just be a nice feature but *very* useful to help the user to recognize the spatial structure e.g. of the positions of nearby stars or the "vast polar structure" in our Galactic neighbourhood, recently published by Marcel Pawlowski.
