ELIoT is a very simple and small programming language specifcally designed to facilitate the configuration and control of swarms of small devices such as sensors or actuators. It can also be used as a powerful, remotely-accessible extension language for larger applications. ELIoT is fully homoiconic, and uses that to make it very easy to send programs across the network. A single temperature API is all you need to be able to perform much more advanced operations, such as reporting temperature alarms, detecting sudden temperature changes, or computing temperature statistics. Applications are no longer limited by the API, and the design saves on network bandwidth and energy by only sending exactly the information the application needs. ELIoT is a derivative of XLR, and inherits its very simple, extensible syntax and semantics. There is a single operator to rewrite parser trees, and parse trees are the fundamental data structure for all programs.
