That can work two ways! :-) In the 1980's my job location was on Eielson AFB near Fairbanks Alaska, and was located inside a security area. Either a line badge or an escort was required. Only supervisory people had escort ability. So one day while there was a visiting crew of maybe 8 or 9 AF people working in this area (making for a large amount of confusion about people), I decided to head for the Post Office. Unknown to me, there was only one other person with escort authority, and he decided to go across the street for a hamburger. He went out the front door as I went out the back door. When I returned the Security Police had everyone who'd been inside that building on the outside of that building, all lined, literally, "up against the wall".
