Set the view of one group to be as you want your default view to be (sort order/unthreaded/unread/whatever) In top right of the header of the message list pane, there is a "grid" icon, right-click on that [the following steps feel awkward because the menu cascades to the left] choose "apply current view to..." choose "folder and its children" choose your news server choose the top-level of your news server again It will ask you to confirm you want to apply the current view to the news server and all its children, so click OK ... BUT ... your joy will be short lived, because before too long something will cause the view settings to get undone :-(
