Exactly. There's no guarantee that 1) you'll get new updates, nor 2) that you can manually get and install new updates, nor 3) that you can get and install new versions. So for a daily driver, you need to be willing and prepared for to get stuck with an out-of-support system, i.e. like a 7 or 8.1 or ('soon') 10 system.
