Volcanoes "awaken"; they're "alive". Anything that comsumes "eXergy" ( energy that can do work ) is "alive" ( virtually ). Grasses created humans, to further their seed. "Randomness" is ignorance, nothing more, nothing less. Time is a spatial dimension, like east and west. The "timescape" is static, immutable. In four dimensions ( spacetime ), the future is just as static as the past ( and even less known ). So... Objectively, intrinsically, nothing is alive. Subjectively, virtually, everything is alive, including the sun and stars.
