FTR, ISTR you had at least one IBM and/or Lenovo notebook: if you ever
really, really still need a serial port, then a port replicator 
(cheap) or docking station (more expensive)  may enable you to 
actually use a serial port which is hidden inside your notebook 
(http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Docking_Port).
