Yeah, the protocol is pretty robust so it can see it
compensate for a line going bad gradually but
can't establish a new session when its got too bad.

Yeah, it’s a pretty decent backup. The modem MR supplies can do an auto
fallback to that in theory. Not much use for you but handy for a business.
