Even dim lighting through closed eyelids suppresses the production of the sleep hormone. Because of this, circadian rhythms are disrupted, metabolism and appetite control are impaired as a result, binge eating begins.

According to studies, those who sleep with the lights or TV on have a 17% higher risk of gaining more than 5 kg, and the likelihood of obesity is 33% higher.

Nighttime light reduces the effectiveness of leptin, which is responsible for satiety, and leads to hormonal imbalance.
