Ayoung mother, aged 20, has been accused of the horrific murder of her 
eight-month-old son, Mateo, allegedly drowning him in a bathtub before 
engaging in sexual activity with her boyfriend while the baby's lifeless 
body lay on the hotel room floor.

Esperanza Rae Harding, who is said to have drowned her son in a bathtub 
due to frustrations that his crying was spoiling her bath, has been 
charged with second-degree murder following the incident on February 28. 
Harding's boyfriend, 18-year-old Edwin Cosmo Trudeau, who was also present 
in the Bloomington hotel on the outskirts of Minnesota and Minneapolis, 
faces charges of aiding an offender.

The allegations suggest that after the act, Trudeau arrived and suggested 
disposing of Mateo's body in the rubbish rather than seeking help. The 
couple then allegedly had sex next to the corpse of the deceased child.

Harding brought Mateo's body to a children's hospital on March 1, claiming 
her son had died of natural causes. However, suspicions were raised when 
the hospital had no record of Mateo, and under the pressure of an 
interview, Harding eventually confessed to the police that she "wrapped up 
his [Mateo's] body, put it in a backpack, and threw it in a dumpster.''

She stated her boyfriend ''wanted her to prove that he was her top 
priority'' adding that he "did not like her child and that he wanted her 
to give him up for adoption.

"The mother confessed that she drowned her baby because his crying was 
preventing her from enjoying her bath. She admitted to taking a photo of 
the lifeless body of Mateo in the water, which authorities have since 
found on her phone

"The defendant took a photo of Victim floating face down in the full tub. 
The photo was recovered from her phone, reports the Mirror US.

She said she picked Victim up out of the water after he was 'done moving, 
done twitching. ''.

Text messages exchanged between the couple before the act showed Harding 
hinting at something terrible about to happen with messages like "I'm 
about to do something bad," to which Trudeau responded, "ok that's ok". 
Another message to Trudeau read: "he doing to much rn, I cant f***ing 
sleep, Im trying tho, I'm about to do something bad, Please answer me, He 
going to no be here much longer." [sic].

In their text exchanges, Trudeau allegedly encouraged Harding to keep 
quiet, saying, "If you go down, I go down no matter what," comparing them 
to "Bonnie and Clyde".

Despite their unsuccessful attempt to revive Mateo through CPR, the couple 
decided not to call for emergency services. Instead, they devised a plan 
to conceal the crime by disposing of Mateo's body in a dumpster.
