I rarely post to -dev so as not to get in the way.  My post was as much 
to see if I understood the change correctly as much as anything.  
Sometimes something can be read but can be taken in more than one way.  
Sometimes when I read something, I take what is read in a different way 
than intended.  The biggest thing was me not being sure what the config 
option should be itself, not the change itself.  I wasn't sure if my 
settings were correct or not.  It has been working before but not sure 
if the change would make it stop working.

I think I understood the reason for the change and agree that it is 
likely a good idea to change it.  I even mentioned that in my original 
post.  It seems the current options were causing problems when booted 
from rescue media.  That's not good when most repairs are done from 
rescue media.  It sounds like this new way is the best way.

Some changes may not be a good thing but it seems this is actually the 
way it should have been done the whole time.

Right now I'm working on cutting up a 80 foot tall pin oak tree.  It 
fell a few weeks ago and my neighbor can't do the work due to heart 
trouble, and back problems as well.  He used to jump out of planes in 
the military, when the planes were working just fine even.  LOL I'll try 
to set aside some time in between naps to work on that.  I need a new 
working kernel anyway.  I try to keep older working kernels around but 
my old kernels have no console due to a Nvidia driver change, we pretty 
sure anyway.  Anyway, I need a new kernel so that I have two working 
kernels, with a working console as well. It was on my todo list, I'll 
just try to notch it up a bit.

Thanks to all for the awesome work all of you do.  Gentoo is awesome.  I 
been using it since 2003.  I feel old, in more ways than one.  :/
