I'ld consider this a form of collaboration, only on a lower level. At least some Debian people had to talk to them to get sponsorship etc. Not, that I'm against it. I'm pretty pragmatic, when it comes to Debian. Still, if we can put the logos of those companies on our web site and t-shirts, it wouldn't turn us evil to certify a FW device. As long as someone is willing to do the work, which might not be the case.
