Is this on Wayland?

I do not have this regression. Still using X11. I use KMail 6.3.0 as well.

Also see in my other post for other settings you can review to see whether 
they make a difference.

Happily writing this mail here and have nice display both for the message 
view pane and also for the composer window and everything else in KMail.
