Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam is charged with abandoning a child without the intent to return and faced a judge for the first time on Friday. The discovery was made Sunday when witnesses heard a baby crying and called 911. When officers arrived, they found the newborn baby boy in a tied-up plastic bag near a dumpster along Dashwood Drive in southwest Houston. Authorities said the child had been born the same day he was found. They also said Cux-Ajtzalam told them that she left him and went home with no intentions of going back to get him. "It was pure luck that the child was found and received care," the magistrate judge said during the appearance. During her court appearance, a magistrate judge said that Cux-Ajtzalam had lived in Houston for more than two years. Her bail was set at $90,000 and authorities also said she has an immigration hold. As of Friday, the baby boy remained in the hospital. https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime/newborn-boy-abandoned-southwest- houston/285-25419fcd-9aa2-4663-b8ac-562d589bd4b7
