This propagates further, so that NSImage cannot load BMPs either. Looking at how NSBitmapImageRep is implemented, this seems easy enough, practically a starter project. For instance, I wanted to display /sys/firmware/acpi/bgrt/image which is populated by the ACPI BGRT Linux kernel module on many modern UEFI machines.
