Here's something fun though:

$ PROMPT_COMMAND='cd .'
$ readlink /tmp
private/tmp
$ mkdir /tmp/old
$ cd /tmp/old
$ echo "$PWD"
/tmp/old
$ mv /tmp/old /tmp/new
$ echo "$PWD"
/private/tmp/new

Not wrong, but maybe unexpected to some.
