Saturday, 07/15/23 1:00 PM to 3:55 PM at the Hulen Mall food court, in southwest Fort Worth, TX This was another of our regularly scheduled Saturday afternoon game sessions. We only had two gamers, as the other two didn‘t show up. Luckily there were no loud musicians this afternoon. Though it was muggy. First up, Tim W’s Coal Baron, which was new to me. Here’s the short definition from BGG, “Dig mines from your elevator shaft and bring up coal to complete contracts” And... that’s just what we did. Though there was more to it than that. Like... “The game lasts three rounds, and in each round players take turns placing their workers on action spaces; you can place on a space occupied by another player, but you need to place additional workers in order to do so. Each player has an individual elevator shaft, and will need to use workers to extract coal and bring it to the surface, while also competing for contracts and scrounging for cash in order to do everything else that needs to be done!” I believe Tim gave an adequate explanation. But from the get go mining coal just didn’t grab me. I did my best, but Tim’s experience allowed him to rake in a great deal more victory points than me. So by mid-game my attitude was “I just don’t care anymore / this is boring” Scores: Tim W 150, Michael W 77. Duration: an hour and 25 minutes. Next up, my Ingenious, which was new to Tim W. It took Tim a good while to catch on to what he should be doing. I gave him a *lot* of help the first 2/3’s of the game. In fact, I gave him so much help (suggestions as to where to play) that near the end he squeaked out a last minute victory. Scores: Tim W 8 (I‘ve forgotten his primary color), Michael W 6 (green). Duration: 25 minutes. I believe Tim liked the game. See BoardgameGeek http://www.boardgamegeek.com/ for more information on the games mentioned above. And if you're in the area on Saturday afternoon feel free to join us for a game. -- Michael Ward Fort Worth Gamers And check out our MeetUp page http://www.meetup.com/FortWorthGamers/ .
