Saturday, 09/09/23 1:00 PM to 4:28 PM at the Hulen Mall food court, in southwest Fort Worth, TX
This was another of our regularly scheduled Saturday afternoon game sessions. We had four gamers today. (We were supposed to have seven, but three were no shows.)
Our first game was Jeff G’s Sagrada, which was new to the rest of us. Here’s part of its description from BGG. “Draft dice and use the tools-of-the-trade in Sagrada to carefully construct your stained glass window masterpiece.”
“In more detail, each player builds a stained glass window by building up a grid of dice on their player board. Each board has some restrictions on which color or shade (value) of die can be placed there. Dice of the same shade or color may never be placed next to each other. Dice are drafted in player order, with the start player rotating each round, snaking back around after the last player drafts two dice. Scoring is variable per game based on achieving various patterns and varieties of placement...as well as bonus points for dark shades of a particular hidden goal color.
Special tools can be used to help you break the rules by spending skill tokens; once a tool is used, it then requires more skill tokens for the other players to use them.”
Scores: Everett 56, Michelle C 37, Michael W 34, Jeff G 25. Duration: 38 minutes.
I rated the game on BGG a "5" (mediocre - take it or leave it).
Then, Jeff’s Crypdid Cafe, which was also new to the rest of us. Here’s part of its description from BGG. “You are a lead server at the Cryptid Cafe, a Sasquatch-owned restaurant packed with legendary creatures from all over the world. Gather food. Fill orders. Earn the most tips and be crowned, dare we say, the most "legendary" server. Strategically dispatch your team of Sasquatch servers to the different food stations, gathering the much-needed items to complete your customers' orders.”
Scores: Michelle C 25 (won tie breaker), Everett 25, Jeff G 21, Michael W 19. Duration: an hour and 9 minutes.
I rated the game on BGG a "4" (not so good - but could play again). The theme was a bit too silly for me.
Lastly, Jeff G’s Century: Golem Edition, also new to the rest of us. Here’s part of its description from BGG, “Century: Golem Edition is a re-themed version of Century: Spice Road set in the world of Caravania. In Century: Golem Edition, players are caravan leaders who travel the famed golem road to deliver crystals to the far reaches of the world. Each turn, players perform one of four actions:
Establish a trade route (by taking a market card)
Make a trade or harvest crystals (by playing a card from hand)
Fulfill a demand (by meeting a victory point card's requirements and claiming it)
Rest (by taking back into your hand all of the cards you've played)
The last round is triggered once a player has claimed their fifth victory point card, then whoever has the most victory points wins.”
Scores: Everett 81, Michelle C 60, Michael W 58, Jeff G 43. Duration: 50 minutes. All three of Jeff’s games were new to the rest of us.
I have zero interest in fantasy. So Golems (whatever those are), leave me cold.
I rated the game on BGG a "4" (not so good - but could play again).
See BoardgameGeek http://www.boardgamegeek.com/ for more information on the games mentioned above. And if you're in the area on Saturday afternoon feel free to join us for a game.
