Jeff, the smoke likely is nothign to be concerned on your model 3 power supplies, it is usually teh RIFA Capacitors (power line filters) that look lioke yellow semi tranparent rectangles, cut them off and replace or use psu without them to test. regarding your floppy drive not working, Iwould open case and examine the flat ribbon cable that runs between motherboard and floppy disk controller to make sure its not rotten. I also suggest disconnectingthe top drive and make sure your not using a twisted cable for your floppy drive. the fdc when it fails, simply will make your mdel 3 boot directly to CASS? if it doesnt then it may still be teh FDC but liekly something else, caps on floppies can burn out.
