https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FidoNet is the "big" message network 
between BBSes, DOVENet is a smaller network mostly made up of Synchronet 
BBSes (you near-automatically get connected to it when setting up a 
Synchronet installation)

They are mostly good for discussing with other people who run BBSes.
