Yes, and if you want both speed *and* abundance of space and don't use your DVD drive much, another option is to obtain: * a cheap small SSD * a cheap large hard drive * an OWC Data Doubler: <http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/drive_bracket/datadoubler/> That would let you remove your DVD drive and install both the SSD the HD into the MacBook, and create a Fusion Drive, which combines the relative speed of an SSD, but with as much storage space as you want. This is what I did with my MacBook Pro 17-inch, and I have to say it's quite wonderful. I installed a 240 GB Mercury Extreme Pro SSD into the main drive bay of my MacBook Pro, removed the DVD drive and put it in the box, installed the Apple-supplied Hitachi 750 GB hard drive into OWC Data Doubler chassis, and installed it into the DVD bay. The whole job took me about 20 minutes, tops. Instructions for everything were included with the Data Doubler. Then I used online instructions (below) to create a Fusion Drive, which gave me a whopping 977 GB of lightning quick storage space! Conservatively, a 240 GB OWC SSD is around $120, a 750 GB HD is around $60, and the Data Doubler is around $30, for a total of $210, which would give you nearly 1 TB of very fast storage - best of both worlds. Not bad at all for that price! ; ) (In my case, the 750 GB HD was working fine, so I avoided that cost.) Creating the Fusion Drive amounts to simply issuing a couple of commands in a terminal window: <http://www.macworld.com/article/2014011/storage-drives/how-to-make-your-own-fusion-drive.html> Then you just install OS X and restore from backup like normal. Highly recommended if you want blazing SSD speeds with tons of storage space in a MacBook. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google.
