I have Calendar running all of the time on all my Macs, so an event in 
there is not anykill as it's there as well as sync'd to my iPhone.

That said, the other OS X/iOS included, integrated and sync'd app, 
Reminders, is most appropriate to the OP's situation, IMO.

No need to DL anything.
