Nah, not a "nasty SOB", just someone who doesn't try to pretend he has any special concern for persons he's never met, spoken to, or otherwise interacted with in any way that would cause him to have more than the most casual interest. Also someone who doesn't consider a cop to be anything special just because they have a uniform and a badge. > BTW: you boast of having a S&W to provide security, what model would that be? It's not a boast, it's a statement of fact. But if, as you say, you've been doing the cop thing for 25 years, you were PROBABLY(1) issued the same gun when you were a rookie - S&W Model 15. Mine is specifically a 15-1. A "new out of the box" Model 15 issued around that time would likely be a 15-10 or perhaps -11. Without doing more research than I've got the motivation for, it's only a reasonable hunch that mine was probably originally issued to/carried by a Boeing security guard sometime in the mid 50s. Serial number says it left the S&W factory in February of 1951, so that would be about right, and according to the gent behind the counter, it came to them from a lady who would have been about the right age to have been married to a Boeing guard of that vintage. I could wish that whoever he was hadn't swapped out the original grips for the somewhat cheesy rubber Pachmayr grips I found it wearing, but... That changeout converts it from a "collector" piece (with the corresponding "collector" price tag) to a "daily driver" - To the tune of almost $400, if the counterman at the gun shop is to be believed. (1) I stress the probably because 25 years ago is right on the edge of when most police forces started moving from the Model 15 over to the then-new Glocks and similar sliders as issue weapons. -- Security provided by Mssrs Smith and/or Wesson.
