If you don't have a recovery partition (which is the case with a new drive) and you have an internet connection available you can still use OS X Internet Recovery by holding down the Command-R while starting the computer. Naturally this will be slower; so if you have a 8GB or larger USB stick handy, placing the OS X installer on that would be preferable. But if not, Internet recovery is the simplest method.
