Apple expects every > developer to be able to change their apps after each update of osx. Most updates to OS X, even major, do not require developers to do anything at all. It is an opportunity, however, to get rid of deprecated calls and take advantage of new services. There is little urgency over the short cycle of OS updates. Over several major updates then problems may crop up. Software has a lifecycle. If the 3rd party software co. is serious and making a useful product, then he will invest in maintenance and he will have the revenue from his clients to support that. > That's a waste of time and effort. No it isn't. While it's not obvious when one buys a computer there are things left out and new things added in. The OS and s/w evolves with that. Value increases over time especially with x-platform integration (as Apple do so well between OS X, iPhone/iPad/iPod and to a lesser degree, AppleTV - though the later may see a huge leap forward next week). For many people a 10 year old computer with WinXP is all they really need to send and receive e-mails and surf the web. For others such is not adequate at all for even their smallest tasks. > Our society is moving towards short term policies. Our ancestors created > for eternity. Gaudí did as well. He may have been the last one. My only beef with Apple is maintainability and upgradabilty being infringed. It is less and less easy to get at the hard drive or SSD. Later SSD's in laptops are Apple specific. Memory is soldered in on more and more models. OTOH, for the capability of the machines per dollar, that has gone up in spectacular fashion over the past few years.
