I came across Star Fleet 2: Krellan Commander on an abandonware 
site(before the approved re-release this past winter).  When I played 
it, it finally clicked: THIS is what Derek Smart was trying to emulate 
and improve on.

It was a worthy goal.

I have a downloaded copy of BC3K 2.0 lying around, got as far as 
starting it up once and making sure I could actually move the ship.  One 
of these days I'll get around to messing with it enough to absorb the 
acronyms.
